Dentistry plays a very important role in a child's life. Good oral hygiene can never begin too soon and should never be overlooked. We understand the need for Children's Dentistry and realise that a child's first few visits to the dentist can be a daunting and frightening experience. However our friendly, supportive environment helps ease the nerves of our small patient and that of their parents. Both Dr Ross and Dr Shnier have young children and are experienced at communicating with youngsters.
Baby teeth are of great significance to your child's oral health. These teeth perform an essential role in chewing function, speech development and help lead the way for secondary teeth.
Parents can also play a significant role in helping their children achieve oral well-being. Work with your child to establish healthy eating habits at an early age. By ensuring your child eats a balanced diet from all sections of the healthy food pyramid and limiting the amount of sugar and starch in their diet, decay may be prevented. These foods will also help strengthen and protect teeth. Supervising your child's brushing is another beneficial step in creating good oral hygiene techniques. Your own oral hygiene techniques will influence your children's, so set a good example and demonstrate how you brush and floss.
It is also important not to wait until your child complains of tooth ache to visit us. Dental visits should begin approximately six months after a baby's first tooth appears or no later than their first birthday. Visiting the dentist at an early age will help eliminate any fear your child might have. Being scared of the dentist is learned, not instilled and therefore can be counteracted. During this appointment Dr Geoff Ross will be able to demonstrate the correct brushing technique and evaluate any habits which will impact tooth formation, such as thumb-sucking.
We are here to care for your dental needs and that of your family. We are proficient in the art of Children's Dentistry and are dedicated to your child's oral well-being and confidence at the dentist.
