A smile that is broken, damaged or incomplete can cause a wide range of issues within the mouth; much like a domino effect. For example when a tooth is lost, this causes an imbalance within the mouth:

  • Teeth begin to shift in an attempt to close the gap – resulting in crooked teeth
  • Lack of tooth root stimulation to the jaw means it begins to dissolve – resulting in bone loss
  • Lack of support to surrounding teeth means they begin to become unstable and loose – resulting in more lost teeth!

At his Melbourne dental practice, Dr Geoff Ross is dedicated to helping his patients achieve total oral health along with a smile that is appealing and functions beautifully. By using his advanced restorative dental care techniques and treatments, Dr Geoff Ross can help you reclaim your smile and your confidence!

Dental implants are a revolutionary way to restore full function to your smile…

Dental implants have completely revolutionised the way in which we can treat tooth loss. In conventional times, a lost tooth would mean a simple bridge or even traditional dentures for restoring smiles. These techniques, although effective for restoring the look of the smile, did nothing to enhance function or feeling.

Dental implants are different in that they utilise a small titanium rod that is biocompatible with your own bone material, and is inserted into the jawbone at the site of the tooth loss. By doing so, the titanium rod begins to fuse with the jawbone over a period of months to form a strong and powerful tooth root substitute. A porcelain restoration such as a crown, bridge or even premium dentures are secured to the implants that show just millimetres above the gums (also known as ‘abutments’). This gives you a brand new tooth that looks, feels and functions just like your natural tooth – and with good care should be a permanent restoration!

Root canal treatment can help save your tooth from extraction…

When a tooth is severely infected, Dr Geoff Ross will usually recommend a root canal treatment in order to remove the infection, and leave extraction only as a last resort. With strong advancements in dental technology and science, the scary conventional root canal treatment has evolved into an easy, more comfortable treatment that should cause no more pain or discomfort than receiving a dental filling! By removing the infection from inside the tooth, we are able to help save the tooth from extraction and ensure its structural integrity by placing a porcelain restoration such as a crown over the treated tooth.
